INTRODUCTION

In the fast-paced world that we live in today, effective and efficient communication of scientific news is of paramount importance. Being welcomed into the new year by the ongoing global pandemic, we realised how deficient the society was when it came to scientific knowledge. Having to explain the entirety of the population about the gravity of the coronavirus disease and the necessary precautions to be taken would have been relatively easy, had there been prior familiarity with basic science. Our magazine thus endeavours to bridge this gap by providing simple yet reliable information right from the basics. Happy reading!

Have you ever felt inexplicably sad, depressed for no apparent reason, unnecessarily stressed or uninterested in the things you generally like doing the most? Have you ever wondered why you could be feeling that way? Most people tend to term this “a passing phase” that “you’ll eventually get over”.

The normal flora of the human body consists of trillions of microorganisms. Human microbiota are microbes that colonize our skin, nose, throat, mouth, gut and vagina and are normally harmless. The majority of the bacterial population is found in the gut. These gut microbes do not harm the host, but in turn, they depend on humans for their growth and survival.

Most of us have entered this new year with a goal to become healthier and well, wiser. After ‘religiously’ following YouTube tutorials and picking little bits of advice from my gym brothers, I decided to deep dive into reading a bit more about the scientific aspect of it. While skimming through the list of unending possibilities of physically achieving the ‘Pink of Health’ title, I came across resistance band exercises.

Seven months ago, I moved from India to a different part of the world, the Netherlands. It is popular for tulip fields and flat lands but especially for the biking culture since most common mode of transport in the Netherlands is a bike. Designated bike lanes and no elevation makes it ideal to bike long distances. Carrying the corona kilos with me, I came to this country totally unfit with an intention that biking daily to my university will make me fit.

We are now at the end of the PCOS series, discussing a crucial aspect of managing a PCOS life: Diet. It has been repeatedly said by a gynecologist, the internet, and even by me: PCOS cannot be cured but can be managed by lifestyle modifications. And when it comes to managing a healthy lifestyle, it involves maintaining an active life by exercising and doing stuff that involves physical work, getting proper sleep, taking care of mental health (extremely important), and having a proper dietary intervention.

World War II had recently taken place. Japan had been crippled, economically, socially and culturally.  Due to rising geopolitical tensions with North Korea, The United States were invested in Japan’s quick economic recovery and had dispatched eminent and visionary business analysts and academic figures to help the Japanese with strategies for recovery. One of these was W. Edwards Deming.

Often, when we discuss PCOS, we tend to dive deep into its physical aspects, which I feel are omnipresent. When we look up PCOS on the internet or consult a gynecologist, we usually get tones of information about how PCOS affects a woman’s physical health. We rarely bring another important characteristic into the spotlight because it isn’t “visible” to others. But yes, it is there, and managing it is crucial. It is mental health.

Yoga is a very famous and widely used discipline which helps bring peace and harmony to our mind and body. Practicing yoga on a daily basis helps one to become the best version of themselves. The word ‘Yoga’ has its roots in an ancient Sanskrit word called ‘Yuj’, which means ‘to join’ or ‘to unite’. It helps unite with our physical, mental and intellectual being.

At some point in your life, you may have heard many saying, ‘Just take azithromycin’ for any random infection that you may have, or ‘Take a Combi’ for any aches or pains. But is it right? Will it cure the problem or cause even more problems along the way? To answer this question, let’s first take a look at the origins of modern medicine.
